La Flor Dominicana Suave
Cigar Tipsters Rating:
The LFD Suave is a cigar that I would not normally pick for myself. I tend to stay away from Connecticut Shade cigars with the exception of early mornings or days when I'm hung-over. This cigar was given to me by a rep from LFD, so I'm making an exception to the rule.
I grabbed a local Minnesota brew from the fridge and lit the Suave with my favorite Xikar lighter. I'll admit I was hooked with-in the first few minutes. The Suave is remarkably smooth with a distinct leathery/earthy taste - a nice parting from the traditional "corn flake" Connecticut cigar. I was also surprised that LFD, the maker of some of the strongest cigars I've tried, was able to make an enjoyable light-medium strength cigar.
The construction of this cigar is also noteworthy. The ash was a handsome flakey white and held longer than I was comfortable with. The burn was straight edge the entire smoke and I never needed a relight (even after a trip to the can, courtesy of the beer I mentioned earlier.)
The Suave didn't change much from my initial tasting notes of leather and earth delivered in a smooth smoke, but in this instance that was plenty enjoyable by itself. I believe this cigar would be great for someone who enjoys milder cigars but is looking for something a little more hearty and wholesome. I will definitely smoke this again and recommend it to fellow smokers.
