The La Aurora Fernando Leon Family Reserve is a handsome looking cigar with a classy red, white, and gold band.  A minimal secondary band covers the foot with the words "110th anniversary" proudly written.  Reviews aside, congratulations to La Aurora on such an accomplishment.

I prepare the cigar with my trusty Xikar tools and get right into it.  My first puffs introduce a mild peppery taste balanced with a subtle cedar finish.  There is a nice smoothness to the flavors, likely provided by the use of Dominican and Brazilian tobacco.  First impressions indicate that I am going to enjoy this.  The cigar is medium in strength and body.

As I near the middle third I start to notice a citrusy taste.  It isn't a dominant flavor and there is a chance it has been there all along.  Like the pepper and cedar, the citrus is balanced and mild.  Citrus flavors seem to be more common with Dominican tobaccos and are sometimes described as "tangy".  The pepper has faded some but it still remains on the finish.

I'm down to the back third of this delightful cigar and it remains smooth and flavorful.  Pepper, cedar, and citrus flavors are present and complimentary - a sign of great blending.  Both strength and body remain consistent.  This cigar was enjoyable and something I would smoke again.  I would recommend it to beginners or experienced smokers as a nice afternoon delight.

7.8/10
